Looking for a small dog

I am looking for a small dog. I really like the maltese or yorkies. I am looking for one that is being given away. It's not that I can't afford to buy one. I just can't see paying for an aniaml when there are so many out there that need a good home. It will be in a loving home. I am a stay at home mom with 4 children and my fiancé is in law enforcement.
